CRIME PREVENTION TIPS
DISPLAY YOUR ADDRESS!
Be
sure to have your address displayed on both the front and rear of your home.
USING A
CELL PHONE TO REPORT EMERGENCIES!!
Do you know when you use a cell
phone to call 911 sometimes the call will be
forwarded to the wrong dispatch center?
Why?
Because cell phones use
airwaves to connect you to whoever you are calling, if
you are on the border of two separate counties there is a chance the call may
take you
to the wrong county which could cause a delay in emergency response.
So..... If you use a cell phone to
call for help make sure you provide the 911 center with the
exact location including county and town you need help in.
VALUABLES
INSIDE YOUR VEHICLES
Police recommend you do not
leave valuable items inside your car. Cell phones, Ipods, Cd's, DVD
players, Money and other valuable items are attractive to thieves. Try not
to leave any of these items inside your vehicle. If you have a radio with a
removable face plate, take the time to remove it before you exit your vehicle.

LAWS IN BRIEF

Below are some
laws in brief that are contained within the Crimes & Motor Vehicle Code
in addition to Colwyn Borough local laws and ordinances. Please use this as a
helpful reminder as we continue to provide a safe community. To obtain
information on the full statutes or Borough ordinance contact your local law
library or Borough office. Again the topics listed below are a short
interpretation of the actual law designed for quick reference.
Curfew
Colwyn Borough does have a curfew for anybody under the age of 18. Sunday thru Thursday 10pm and Friday and Saturday 10:30pm.
Vehicles

All
vehicle on a public street must have valid registration (license plate),
Inspection, Emissions and insurance. Any vehicle that does not have the
required credentials will be cited and could be placed in abandoned status.
Damaged
vehicles which are deemed a Hazard may not be parked in the borough.
Parking

Double
parking is illegal. No cars shall be double parked along a roadway or driveway.
(Putting your hazard lights on is not a legal parking permit and will not exempt
you from the law).
Parking in front
of the Colwyn school is prohibited. This area is clearly marked "NO Parking" for
the safety of the children. Illegal parking will be strictly enforced in this
area.
The Borough has
numerous parking regulations to maintain public safety. Make sure you read all
signs before you park to make sure you are not breaking the law.
Streets
Walking in
the street is illegal and you can be detained and cited for violating this law.

offensive noise and music is prohibited. It is the responsibility of the
community to show respect and consideration for each other. Borough and State
laws are in place for those who choose to disturb the peace and create public
alarm and inconvenience. This includes but not limited to profanity, obscene
language, fighting, vandalism, theft, intoxication or any other act deemed to be
detrimental to the public.
